Local Primary school pupils are taking over Junction for 2 weeks this March. Year 6 children at Parkside Primary School have been working with Junction for the past six months to put together the TakeOver Festival, where students from a Goole primary school get to plan the events for Junction for a whole two weeks. The students get to choose which shows to book, create the brochure and even get to do jobs at Junction like giving out tickets at Box Office and controlling the lighting.
The children have been working their socks off to make the best work possible, and chose these shows to raise awareness of saving the planet. Even though they are only 10 and 11, they have put together amazing shows for the whole family to enjoy, including musicals, stand-up poetry and even trips inside inflatable whales!
“It’s such a fantastic opportunity for us!”– Branden
Audiences can put their imaginative ideas to the test with Plastic Band on Friday 13 March, which was specially written for the TakeOver Festival. Based around Goole in 2142, it has actors on set explaining how our actions affect the future, and after the show there will be a killer workshop to make your own plastic instruments.
On Saturday 14 March, travel Around the World in 80 Days, in a circus version of the classic story written by Jules Verne. At the end of the show there will even be a chance to play on the equipment. If you like The Greatest Showman, should definitely check this out!
Bold explorers can squeeze into the mouth of a giant inflatable whale on Saturday 21 March in Circo Rum Ba Ba’s The Whale. Visitors will find themselves in the depths of the ocean as an acrobat leads them through an ancient leatherback turtle’s battle to survive in an ocean full of rubbish.
The children have also chosen the film Wall-E(U)to be shown on the big screen on Friday 20 March. The screening will include a special Q+A with the ERYC Recycling team and Parkside’s Environment Council.
“People should come to see the shows because it will teach them to use less plastic. Many animals are becoming endangered because plastic is getting into our oceans and killing creatures in the seas.”– Alyssa
Tickets for all performances are available from the Box Office on 01405 763652 and www.junctiongoole.co.uk. Visit the website to learn more.
