Goole Museum has a unique collection which shows the importance of the town’s history and the lives of its communities. Over the last four years, a dedicated team of curators have been working on a review of the 12,500 objects in the collection – from sports programmes and shipyard tools to vacuum cleaners and 1960s fashion, they have looked at everything.

Their task was to find the hidden stories connected with the objects. They also needed to identify items that do not relate to Goole and the surrounding areas.

The museum is holding two open days to share the team’s work, on Friday 15 November and Friday, 13 December, from 10.30am until 3.30pm. Local people will be able to come along and find out how this review will enable the museum team to build up knowledge about the collection and help them to share Goole’s community heritage in the future.

Assistant Curator of collections, Dominic Rogan, said:

“The days are open to all, no need to book! Just come for a chat about Goole museum and the collection. Objects will be out from the store and the team will be there to share their work and object stories with you.

“We really want to get the community involved with the process and ensure they understand the benefit of well researched and catalogued collections.”
