Selby Treasures Pop up Museum at Summit

November 15, 2019 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Bring along an object you love and tell us about it!

Selby Treasures is part of the Selby 950 programme, celebrating 950 years since the founding of Selby Abbey, focusing on Selby’s history.

Selby Museum closed in the 1960s but with your help we want to create a pop-up museum for the town.

If you could choose one object that you love to put in the museum, what would it be?

Your object may be special to you, your family or the history of Selby. We want to see as many loved objects as we can; the precious, the quirky and definitely the mysterious!

We’d also like to make some portrait drawings of people and their objects, as part of the exhibition that will take place in Selby Abbey early next year.

The Selby Treasures team will be at Summit Indoor Adventure Centre, at Selby Leisure Centre on Friday 15th November. Bring your artefacts and objects and share the stories behind them.

As the pop up museum progresses and more events take place, banners will display the growing collection of photographs. Some residents will have their portraits and artefacts drawn by graphic artist and novelist Simon Grennan. These portraits will then be displayed at future events.

The November pop ups will be followed by a major exhibition featuring the most interesting objects, their owners and their stories in Selby Abbey from 25 January to 9 February 2020. Artwork created earlier in the project will also be on display.
