Read School, Drax, Selby, is a fully co-educational, independent boarding and dayschool, for boys and girls aged 3 – 18.The Lower Junior School (Reception-Year 2) is a fun, lively place, with committedteaching staff who create bespoke teaching packages around each child’s strengthsand needs.
Our small class sizes meant the Spring 2020 pandemic did not close us for long, andthe remote learning packages we offered before reopening were second to none, ourparents have told us. Over the summer we have run a successful SummerEnrichment programme to entertain and educate children, and support busy parents. We have a detailed plan for Autumn 2020 and2021, acres of space and capacity, should stricter social distancing measures beintroduced again.
Small class sizes at Read School mean teachers spot early any areas where gentleinterventions may be necessary in order to seamlessly prepare pupils for thetransition to Upper Junior School (Years 3-6), and Senior School. Whilst academicallysuccessful, Read equally prides itself on its inclusive nature, particularly excelling atidentifying any extra needs and working closely with both child and family to ensurethey can be the best they can be, and happy and fulfilled.
In Senior School, a diverse range of academic studies is offered at both GCSE andA-level, together with a full programme of sports and clubs including drama, music, Combined Cadet Force, and five languages, including Mandarin. Leith Cookery School and BTECHealth &Social Care are two of our newest senior offerings, not commonly offered inindependent schools.
Come and visit us. As a rural school,we can offer socially-distanced tours.
“Read School is truly unique. Whether your child is academically gifted, or in need of some extra help, we would highly recommend the school to anyone, as its holistic approach to both education and wellbeing is phenomenal.
Recommended to us by a family currently at the school, and having finished our first year as a family of three children at Read, we would like to express how impressed and lucky we feel to be part of this school community. What the school lacks in size, it makes up for in expertise, character and tradition, with a united and close-knit community of students and staff. This community not only strives for excellence but is completely nurturing and supportive of all who play a part within it.”
Zoe Bellamy, outgoing Head Girl:
“At Read, I was always a valued pupil rather than just a set of grades. The small class sizes helped build my confidence as I was less afraid to speak up, or ask for help, and the teachers would always be happy to assist, no matter what. Thank you, Read, for making me the confident, rounded person I am today.”
