STAG Mumbler Monthly Meetup at Summit Indoor Adventure

Come along and join us for our monthly meetup at Summit Indoor Adventure, Selby!

Why do we host meet ups?

Finding the courage to attend a parent and child group (particularly as a new parent) can be really tough.  Who will be there? Will anyone chat to me? are all thoughts we know many parents and carers have, this is why we host meet ups. At each event you’ll find the STAG Mumbler Team (in our purple hoodies) so you have the choice to come along and simply enjoy the benefit of 1/2 price play, alternatively, if you fancy a natter and a cuppa while your mini mumbler plays, then you can come and sit with us.  We love meeting our mumblers face to face.

If you have any questions about the meet up, or would like to drop us a message to say you’re coming  so we can look out for you, please contact us at  Booking is not necessary.

The STAG Mumbler Toy Exchange

We’ll also be using our meet-ups as an opportunity to host a toy exchange.  We all know how quickly children seem to grow out of their toys, but it can expensive buying new ones, this is why we have the toy exchange. We’ll come along with our baskets of pre-loved toys and you can bring along yours. Leave yours with us (for someone else to swap) and help yourself to something new to take home.  Perhaps you’re a parent who’s struggling financially….no problem at all, simply take a toy, there’s no need to swap it with one of your own.  There’s no need to feel guilty, we all have times when things can be tight, perhaps at some point in the future, you’ll have the opportunity to donate. Raising children can be expensive, so the more we can help each other, the better.

Craft Corner or Local Business Showcase

Each meet up we also have either a lovely local business showcasing what they have to offer, or a mini craft station where we bring along our special box of crafts and let our Mini Mumblers get creative with something to take home. We’ve had some beautiful cards and paintings done over the last few events.

Little Shoots Forest School

My name is Sally and I work with Siobhan, we are both Forest School leaders with over 20 years experience between us in Early Years education and outdoor learning. We believe that Forest School offers your child the opportunity to build confidence, self esteem, independence and problem solving, all essential skills for life.

‘Teddy absolutely loved his first forest school experience today and totally fell Inlove with the “girls” as he calls them (leaders). Will definitely be back each week. Even I loved it too.’  MS, May 19

We believe in the freedom of child directed play but also offer the opportunity for children to learn fire, shelter and tool skills from an early age. Primarily, we are concerned with safety and once children understand how to stay safe they have the freedom to become their own assessors of risk giving them independence to learn.

Our Forest School is in the Forestry Commission, Bishop Wood LS25 (Nr Selby). We run Early Years (0-5 year olds) sessions called ‘Little Shoots’ and family days at weekends. We will also be running sessions for children with additional needs and school holiday clubs for children aged 4-11 years, these are sessions where children can be unaccompanied by an adult.

We always have a fire and make camp fire food, create craft using natural materials and have free play provision of hammocks, bug hunting, low ropes, fairies etc age depending and have FUN playing out! We also offer Woodland Birthday Parties.

An unmissable half term, with the fiery return of Future Engineers and a face-to-face encounter with the original Rocket.

Find wonder in the everyday and inspiration in the unexpected in this year’s Future Engineers, which runs throughout October half term.

Our highlights are below, but there’s plenty more to discover during your visit.

Investigate the effects of forces on your everyday lives and learn how engineers conquer them in your favourite hands-on challenges, new activity zones and opportunities to meet real engineers.

Our star attraction is a Circus Skills Workshop, where a pair of fire-breathing circus performers will reveal the science behind their top tricks.

Head to the Pressure Zone to squash, sculpt and sketch your way through a world of physics and find out how animals such as the peculiar-looking blobfish are affected by the forces around them.

Slow the pace down a little with a visit to our Engineering is Everywhere living room containing objects with force-defying designs.

Come face-to-face with the original world-changing Rocket and explore our wonderful Brass, Steel and Fire exhibition, which is packed with marvellous miniature locomotives

It’s not all circuses and science at the National Railway Museum this October half-term. Feel the wind in your hair on our Steam Rides and Miniature Railway or catch a ride on our brand-new Road Train.

Pontefract Castle: Junior Archaeology Finds Lab 19th and 20th October

Archaeologists are coming to dig at Pontefract Castle and you can take part! Step into the Archaeology Finds Lab and learn all about fabulous finds, amazing artefacts, and what happens to all the freshly-dug discoveries.
Come and get an incredible insight into the lives of the people who once lived at Pontefract Castle – all by getting hands-on with the artefacts they left behind thousands of years ago!
You can sign up for half a day, or a full day – whichever your prefer. Either way, this is a unique chance to handle ancient artefacts from Pontefract!

Archaeology Finds Lab Morning (10am – 12pm)
Join a morning session for a very hands-on introduction to archaeological finds. You’ll learn about all the different types of finds, what they can tell us, and the first basic steps archaeologists need to take to preserve artefacts so that they can be studied in more detail.
You’ll then get hands-on, helping the Finds Team to clean, store and quantify a freshly-dug collection of artefacts. Whether it’s bone, stone, wood, glass, or ceramic, each one needs to be preserved so that they can be studied in more detail!

Archaeology Finds Lab Afternoon (2pm – 4pm)
Join an afternoon session for a broader introduction to archaeological finds. As well as the freshly-dug discoveries, we’ll also look at other ancient artefacts from Pontefract. We’ll focus on how artefacts can be identified and analysed, and what each object can tell us about the past.

Archaeology Finds Lab Full Day! (Morning and Afternoon, 10am – 5pm)
Keen to learn as much as possible about the Pontefract’s amazing artefacts? Remember, you can book a morning session, an afternoon session, or both! You don’t need to attend one to attend the other, but by booking one of each you can have yourself a full-day Finds Lab experience! You’ll get to spend the whole day in the Finds Lab, learning how archaeologists handle the things they find, and how they figure out what they are. What a great way to spend the day!

Is the event suitable for children?
This event is ideal for families with children aged 6+. All children need to be accompanied by a participating adult. The items you’ll be handling are part of an ongoing scientific investigation, and will need to be handled carefully. Parents or carers need to be responsible about their children’s behaviour. If your children are all teenagers, you can join Archaeology Finds Lab.

Do I need to book?
Yes, booking is highly recommended. We only have 10 children’s places for each session! If you can no longer come, please let us know so we can offer your place to someone else.
