STAG Mumbler Monthly Meetup at Summit Indoor Adventure

Come along and join us for our monthly meetup at Summit Indoor Adventure, Selby!

Why do we host meet ups?

Finding the courage to attend a parent and child group (particularly as a new parent) can be really tough.  Who will be there? Will anyone chat to me? are all thoughts we know many parents and carers have, this is why we host meet ups. At each event you’ll find the STAG Mumbler Team (in our purple hoodies) so you have the choice to come along and simply enjoy the benefit of 1/2 price play, alternatively, if you fancy a natter and a cuppa while your mini mumbler plays, then you can come and sit with us.  We love meeting our mumblers face to face.

If you have any questions about the meet up, or would like to drop us a message to say you’re coming  so we can look out for you, please contact us at stag@mumbler.co.uk.  Booking is not necessary.

The STAG Mumbler Toy Exchange

We’ll also be using our meet-ups as an opportunity to host a toy exchange.  We all know how quickly children seem to grow out of their toys, but it can expensive buying new ones, this is why we have the toy exchange. We’ll come along with our baskets of pre-loved toys and you can bring along yours. Leave yours with us (for someone else to swap) and help yourself to something new to take home.  Perhaps you’re a parent who’s struggling financially….no problem at all, simply take a toy, there’s no need to swap it with one of your own.  There’s no need to feel guilty, we all have times when things can be tight, perhaps at some point in the future, you’ll have the opportunity to donate. Raising children can be expensive, so the more we can help each other, the better.

Craft Corner or Local Business Showcase

Each meet up we also have either a lovely local business showcasing what they have to offer, or a mini craft station where we bring along our special box of crafts and let our Mini Mumblers get creative with something to take home. We’ve had some beautiful cards and paintings done over the last few events.

National Theatre Live: One Man, Two Guvnors (Satellite Screening)

Fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe, a small time East End hood, now in Brighton to collect £6,000 from his fiancée’s dad. But Roscoe is really his sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother, who’s been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers.

Holed up at The Cricketers’ Arms, the permanently ravenous Francis spots the chance of an extra meal ticket and takes a second job with one Stanley Stubbers, who is hiding from the police and waiting to be re-united with Rachel. Open Art at Goole Museum

The sixth Annual Open Art is now on at Goole Museum, until 31 August.

Curator Debbie Hardy said: “This popular exhibition is open to all artists from Goole and the surrounding area and is a showcase for our local talent. Every year I am impressed by the standard of work submitted.

“Once again we will be running the ‘People’s Choice’. Our visitors can vote for their favourite piece and the winner will receive £100 worth of framing, courtesy of our fantastic supporters at Gallery Framing on Pasture Road. Last year we had over 200 people vote for their favourite work of art, and the winning artist was delighted with his prize.

“For any art lovers out there, this is a great exhibition. Come along and be inspired or just enjoy the art.  There are traditional landscapes, alongside abstract art, portraits and illustrations. For some visitors it could be a fantastic opportunity to purchase an original piece of art for yourself, or someone special.

Goole Museum is open :

Tuesday to Friday 10am to 5pm

Wednesday 10am to 7pm

Saturday 9am to 4pm

Closed for lunch 12 noon to 12.30pm (Wednesdays 1.30 to 2pm)

BOOK NOW for the PQA York Summer School

If any of you have been following our journey, you’ll know that our 6 year old mini mumbler spends her Saturday afternoons at the fabulous Pauline Quirke Academy (PQA) York.  You can read our first blog detailing her first day and the second following her journey during the first few weeks.

Well today, she was devastated. Around lunchtime, she did her usual popping upstairs and re-appearing minutes later with her PQA uniform on. We’d forgotten to tell her, but explained that as it’s the holidays, she wouldn’t be going. You should have seen her face, it was like we had just given her the worse news possible.

There was only one thing for it……we decided it was time to tell her where she’d be spending some of her Summer holiday.

She was unclear what we meant by a Summer School, so it went something like this…..

Mummy: Eva, do you know how you go to PQA every Saturday afternoon?

Eva: Yes mummy

Mummy: Well guess what you’ll be doing in the Summer holidays?

Eva: What mummy?

Mummy: You’re going to PQA for a whole week!!! and you’ll create a whole show that mummy and daddy can come and watch at the end. Does that sound good?

To say she was ecstatic is an understatement. PQA is the highlight of her week and it has been amazing to see her confidence grow week on week.

School holidays can be hard to plan for and we’re required to place such trust in those who we leave them with, well we have absolutely no hesitation in leaving our mini mumbler with this wonderful team of talented and caring individuals.

WANT TO KNOW THE GREAT NEWS? Anyone can attend the Summer School, you don’t need to be a PQA student.

Bishop Wood is a large, peaceful wood a few minutes’ drive from Selby, North Yorkshire, Sherburn in Elmet and South Milford. There is free parking and the main paths are wide and flat. Some were a bit muddy but otherwise it is gentle terrain for disabled people or those wanting a relaxing walk. Would be good for cyclists.

You can have a nice walk around Bishop Wood, but you usually need your good wellies! Good for those whose kids like to splash in lots of mud!

Elmer the Patchwork Elephant – Bridlington Spa

In 2019 Elmer the Patchwork Elephant celebrates his 30th Birthday and will be heading out on an extensive tour across the UK. The brand-new Live stage adaptation is based on the classic children’s book series by David McKee and is coming to Bridlington Spa on Thursday 22 August.

Elephants, as everyone knows, are big, have trunks, and are grey. But Elmer is a patchwork of brilliant colours! His fun-loving and cheerful personality keeps everyone in a playful mood, until the day he gets tired of being different and tries to blend in with the herd.

Elmer The Patchwork Elephant Show tells the tale of an elephant that stands out – both with his patchwork-coloured skin and his sense of humour – but ultimately realizing that his friends have always valued his unique characteristics.

Elmer the Patchwork Elephant Show will be brought to life on stage by Selladoor Family, the producers behind James And The Giant Peach, Seussical , The Owl And The Pussycat, Guess How Much I Love You and Madagascar the Musical; and MEI Theatrical, producers of family entertainment across Asia and the Middle East and The Very Hungry Caterpillar show and Sarah and Duck’s Big Top Birthday in the UK.

Alex Parker, Lead Producer for Selladoor adds “We are thrilled to be bringing this much-loved character to life alongside the important stories that Elmer represents. Expect puppetry, colour and a trunk-load of fun!”

The show’s subtle message that it is always best to be yourself, combined with the vibrant colour and cheeky humour of the main character, makes Elmer a great show for children of all ages. A celebration of individuality and the power of laughter!

Elmer the Patchwork Elephant at Bridlington Spa on Thursday 22 August. Tickets can be booked in person, via the box office on 01262 678258 or online at www.bridspa.com
