New term: September saw the start of the new academic year at PQA York for our Mini Mumbler and she just couldn’t wait to get back into the swing of things. First session back and she was loving it, it was like she’d never been away. The first few weeks saw some super Halloween planning and she had great fun showcasing her werewolf skills in the Halloween film showcase.
October Half Term: The fun doesn’t stop there, no way! PQA ran throughout October Half Term, giving her something to enjoy, even during a very quiet and unusual school holiday. Next would have been Christmas planning, but Lockdown 2.0 hit and the team had to move all teaching back online again.
Lockdown PQA Live: Overnight, the amazing team managed to turn things around and create Zoom friendly, inclusive sessions. This was our Mini Mumbler’s first online PQA and we weren’t sure what to expect. We’d tried a few online classes during Lockdown 1.0 but she quickly lost focus and we soon realised that she was much better suited to face to face sessions. We asked her to give it a try and that there was no pressure to carry on if she didn’t like it, the result……….she ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! The team still offer the full 3 hour session (not easy keeping children and young adults entertained for that long!) but they do, she is glued to the screen throughout. The great news for me (mummy time), I get to sit here writing things like this and listening to her dancing about upstairs in her room, laughing and enjoying every minute of it. She’s currently practising a Christmas dance in her musical theatre session.
The journey: Mini mumbler has now been with PQA for just over 2 years and I just cannot praise the incredible team enough. From the initial emails, to how welcome they made her on her very first day, welcoming her into the family and ensuring she settled in. It was the first time I had ever left her at a class and she was only 5, so I wasn’t sure how she’d get on. She didnt look back and on her second week, she was raring to go, waiting at the door ready to jump in the car. The team are so supportive and encouraging, recognising and valuing all the different confidence levels children can have and truly nurturing and encouraging each child to ‘BE YOURSELF, BE AMAZING!‘
We are so looking forward to watching the rest of her PQA journey. Seeing her love something so much is wonderful, but witnessing week on week her confidence, skills and friendships grow is just amazing.
