Having heard lots about it, we decided to take a visit to the famous Blackpool Illuminations. We had distant memories of it as a child, but hadn’t been for years and certainly not with our own children. We arrived at the North Pier and took the little train down to the end of it and enjoyed a ride on the most beautiful two storey carousel we have ever seen. After a quick stop on the pier for a drink, we strolled down the promenade looking at all the wonderful lights. While we know many people chose to drive through the lights, we were joined by friends and the children were having so much fun playing together, we thought they’d miss out on this if travelling in separate cars. While a car journey through the lights, perhaps with a picnic would be fun, we decided to enjoy the walk.

There were endless things to look at and the children had lots of fun in the amusement arcades, not to mention all the ice cream and donuts they managed to consume. We finished off in The Sea, Fish and Chips Shop (Chapel St), and had yummy fish and chips to end our evening. As we passed Madame Tussauds, there was a special offer available for just £10pp, while the attractions within in looked fantastic, it was getting late and we had the drive back to consider.

Overall we had a lovely, fun day out, plenty of old school seaside fun and lots to see and do. We will definitely be heading back next year for a trip to Tussauds and maybe an overnight stay too. They had a super looking indoor adventure swimming pool which we know our mini mumblers would love that too.

‘Center parcs. I know it can be pricey and a bit of a cliche but we just always have great family time and the kids love the pool.’

Glamping

‘We love glamping in Scarborough with Readycamp, you don’t need to take much stuff with you as the tent is well equipped. The kids love the fact it’s a tent, but you are not roughing it.’

Haggerston Castle – Haven Holidays

‘I love Haggerston Castle. I have done since I was a child and now we take our 2. Not only is it a lovely park, it’s very close to Bamburgh, Holy Islands and Edinburgh so there’s loads to do/see. It’s also included in the sun holidays now too.’

Hookstone House in Darley

“We had a fantastic big family stay in this five bedroom, beautiful property. The house actually sleeps 11 and there is plenty of room. It was a quiet and picturesque location but plenty to see within a short drive. The hot tub was a bonus too!”
